![]() We had wanted a hotel with a restaurant for dinner. We stayed for three nights at the beginning of July at a cost of over EUR 130 per night in what we thought was going to be a comfortable double room with good facilities. The staff are the real gems - would stay again and recommend. The swimming pool was lovely especially when used during the thunderstorm (inside pool).īeautiful hotel, as it has a lovely modern, upscale decor, however very comfortable and casual which complements its historical building, and it’s in a great location for the exploring the area. The spa, staff again were friendly, and wide selection of treatment options (using a variety of high-tech machines). The food overall was good (starters were lovely), however, we did find the mains to be lacking slightly in seasoning and flavour, and the sauce with the pork was a little thick, bitter & had a slight skin to it, but these are small criticisms (personally have a refined palate as parents within the catering industry who have owed various Michelin star restaurants) also appreciate we were eating on a mid-week night when restaurant was quieter.īreakfast in the morning had a wide selection and again staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had dinner on the first night - modern French menu with influences from Asia. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we had originally booked a standard room, but was kindly upgraded to a suite, which was beautifully decorated in modern but comforting décor, and was very spacious. We stayed here two nights, after booking via (booked the same day as arrival as last minute stay). In addition, there are also loos at the back of the information centre in the village which were frankly the cleanest public loos I have encountered in France so worth noting. On a side note, there are loos (very important) and they had actually been built inside the castle which was surprising. ![]() We also stood on the roof and watched a Military cargo plane fly by low which was an added bonus. The views are enough to make the visit worth it, they were stunning, I think 30km all around. If you like the history of Simon De Montfort and Henry Plantagenet, this castle is for you. Some of the buildings and rooms just ooze age and you really feel what it would have been like to live in them. The restoration of the parquet floor that has been done is stunning, there is a before display to show you just how much work has gone into it. We really appreciated that the place had not been decked out top to toe in furniture, some rooms were very sparse but actually the lack of distractions made you appreciate the history and age of the rooms and their purpose. It was slightly out of order compared to the way you traverse the rooms but really didn't matter. We couldn't be bothered with downloading an app so used the paper guide. There is an English booklet that you read on the way round or an App that you can download to give you an audio guide with QR codes in each room to scan. She slowed down her French enough that we could understand the info she was giving about the route round and the discount you get at Cadouin Cloisters if you show them your tickets from Biron (they were once owned by the same famoly). The lady at the ticket booth was lovely, very friendly and so was her colleague who was sitting outside.
